| The Bata Shoe Organisation is the world's largest
manufacturer and vendor of footwear. Operations span the globe through more
than 100 companies in 90 countries. These include tanneries, shoe
factories, engineering plants producing shoe machinery and moulds, product
development studios, quality control laboratories, hosiery factories with
over 6,000 retails stores world wide plus 50,000 independent retailers.
More than 75,000 people are employed throughout the world producing and
selling approximately 300,000,000 pairs of shoes and boots each year,
primarily for internal markets. An additional 400,000 people and their
families, depend on jobs created in the support services created by the Bata
operation.
The Bata company started as a family business nine generations ago. It
was then transformed into an international organisation in Europe at the
beginning of the 20th century, when it later transferred its headquarters to
Canada.
